Knowing and Living your Design can make a profound difference in your life. You are not asked to have faith or believe in anything, rather you are encouraged to investigate and explore yourself, using your own unique Design as a lens, a way of seeing into the truth of you. Your own experience of this will always be the most effective proof of it’s remarkable accuracy and benefit to you, and those around you.

Understanding your design is a bit like being able to figure out what kind of car you are driving. The qualities of that car will determine the route that you can most easily navigate. A souped up dragster is really fast off the line and down the straight away, but not so good at cornering. A vehicle with four wheel drive and high ground clearance can easily navigate pretty rough terrain, but won’t come close to keeping up with a low slung sports car on a curvy road. Your Design shows you graphically what is reliable and trustworthy in that "vehicle" you are sojourning through life with, and where that vehicle is vulnerable. Knowing and Living your Design will gift you, giving you the opportunity to navigate your way through life’s unpredictable terrain more smoothly, with greater ease and efficiency.

Understanding your design is also helpful in this regard: we don’t label a dragster as "bad" because it doesn’t corner so well. We understand that it wasn’t designed to take sharp corners, even though other cars were. It does what it was designed to do very well-- and so it is with us. Knowing and Living our Design opens a way for us to achieve not only greater self-awareness, but a high degree of self-acceptance as well, which is a profound foundation for Peace.

The following information will help you to decipher your personal Rave Chart. It is a key that will provide you with a basic understanding of all the elements that make up your chart, as well as a means to a greater comprehension of your Rave Analysis Reading. Please take the time to review this material before your Reading. It is certain to add to the depth and degree of your understanding of what your chart reveals.

Each Rave Chart has Four Components:

The Data Base: The data base appears on the left as two columns of numbers that are flanking a central column of symbols. The word "Design" and "Personality" head the left and right columns, respectively. The central column’s symbols depict the sun, planetary bodies (Mercury, Saturn, Earth, etc.), and nodes of the moon. The columns labeled "Design" and "Personality" (see glossary of terms) are the result of two separate calculations that are made using the birth data that you provided me. The resulting astrological information (a Natal and Prenatal chart) was then translated into numbers that represent specific hexagrams and lines of the I Ching. You will note that each number in either column has a smaller number attached to its upper right corner. The larger numbers each represent a hexagram (one of the 64 archetypes expressed as hexagrams in the I Ching), and the smaller number expresses one of the six lines, or sub themes, that make up that hexagram.

List of Channels: On the bottom third of the page you will see a list of channels identifying all gates and channels (see glossary of terms).

The Calculation Dates: The calculation dates are found in the upper left-hand corner, underneath your name. The two dates represent the actual date of your birth (used to calculate your natal chart) and the date that your soul is considered, in the Human Design System, to have entered the fetus (used to calculate your pre-natal chart).

The Individual Design Body Graph: The illustration found on the right side of your chart, above the channel and gate information. This is a graphic, color-coded representation of your individual circuitry. The channels and gates (see glossary of terms) that are colored in on the Individual Design Body Graph correspond to the hexagrams listed by number in the Design and Personality columns.

Glossary of Terms:

Personality Column: The column of numbers in black, to the right of the column of symbols. These numbers represent hexagrams which correspond to those traits or qualities that you can be conscious of, what the Personality has access to. In Design, all of the birth data, the calculations made from your natal chart (i.e. - where the planets, sun, etc. were on the zodiacal wheel at the time of your birth). All of this has the potential to be experienced consciously.

Design Column: The column of numbers in red, to the left of the column of symbols. In Design, all of the design data, the calculations made from your pre-natal chart (i.e. - where the planets, sun, etc. were on the zodiacal wheel three months before your actual birth, which is considered to be the moment that your soul entered the fetus). All of this is experienced unconsciously. So, these are traits or qualities that express through you that you are not aware of, though you may notice clearly the effect of that trait in your life. The Design data represents our bio-genetic inheritance.

Hexagram Constellation
: In the Human Design System, one of sixty-four (64) divisions of the zodiacal wheel (each division is an arc of 5°37’30"). The "Voice" that revealed to Ra the knowledge of the mechanics of this
system established a specific order to each of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching as it delegated their place around the circumference of the zodiacal wheel. So, there is a hexagram wheel that overlays the outer circumference of the zodiacal wheel, and it is this wheel that is used to translate the information from your astrological chart into the hexagrams and lines used to create your Human Design Body Graph. Unlike astrology where the data base must be interpreted through angle relationships in a wheel, in Design the data base immediately has a clearly defined framework, a place in the body where it functions.

Hexagram Gates: Each hexagram constellation has a corresponding hexagram gate located in the Rave Body Graph. Each of the nine centers on the Body Graph has the potential of connecting with another center
through a channel that is made up of two hexagram gates.

Centers: The centers are information hubs. They are appear on the Rave Body Graph as shapes that are connected by lines. The knowledge concerning the centers is rooted in the Hindu/Brahmin Chakra System. In Human Design there are nine centers and they are the foundation upon which the entire Rave Body Graph Circuitry is based. (See link to the Nine Centers.)

Channels: The connective mechanism that brings the centers into contact with each other. They appear on the Rave Body Graph as the lines that connect the centers. The knowledge concerning the circuitry of these channels is rooted in the Tree of Life in the Zohar/Kabbalist tradition. They act as transforming agents for the potentials of the gates. It is through the channels that the circuitry of an individual is revealed. Each channel carries a specific value and forms the key to the Rave analysis. Each channel is made up of two hexagram gates.

Definition: In preparing a Rave Chart, when a planet, the sun, or one of the nodes of the moon are found to be in positions that activate both gates of a single channel, this is called definition. The fully activated channel is called a Defined Channel, and the two centers that are connected by a defined channel are considered defined as well. Graphically this is illustrated on the Rave Body Graph by coloring in the entire channel and its two connected centers. Definition is critical to understand because it creates a fixed and permanent connection. It cannot be changed. It is what is reliable in a design, because it is constantly present and always active. This means that whatever is defined in us represents those traits or qualities that are most true to us. It is what we can trust in ourselves, what is reliable. Most of us spend our lives attempting to live out what is not defined rather than live out our definition-- which will always about bring correct action. We attempt to live out what is not defined because of two things: we are trying to fill in what seems to be missing in us; we are conditioned by our parents, or culture to become someone we are, by nature, not.
